American self -loading rifle of world war II. The M1 Garand rifle was the 4th self-loading rifle in the world to be adopted, and the first to be adopted as a primary infantry weapon. Reliable and accurate, it served US forces in world war II and the Korean war. General Patton at the time called this rifle "the greatest weapon of war ever created ." Garand is still popular in the civilian weapons market.
