Produced to compete for the pump shotgun market with the Winchester 12, the M37 was an expired patent from Pedersen brought to life by the Ithaca Gun Company. It worked like most shotguns of the time, and it was relatively unsuccessful in the civilian market. During WW2, it was used in some quantites, as several thousand were produced, serving as a trench gun like the old 1897 model.
