The Hanyang 88 was a copy of the German Gewehr 88 by China in the late 1800's as a means to arm the Qing armies with modern weapons. It was produced at Hanyang arsenal (hence it's name), and even though it had been formally replaced with a copy of the Vz.24,the gun was kept on the frontline due to a lack of weapons in general. It served through WW2 with both the Chinese and the Japanese, as large quantities of them were captured and issued by the Japanese army. Even though it was severely outdated (it became obsolete by WW1 due to modern rifles), it was one of the main weapons used by the Chinese to resist the invasion
