Mod «The Fire Rises - Southern Giant» for Hearts of Iron 4 (v1.16.1 - 1.16.10)

First, I would like to thank everyone for the attention and reception this mod gathered. It was born out of a desire to see South America and Brazil in particular represented in the setting of TFR, and the response to it has confirmed my beliefs that there is plenty of demand for it. The contents and effort of this submod will be merged with an even bigger project "Arde o Sul" (The South Burns), whose development team I have since joined.

We are currently working on implementing months of planned content into the game in order to get a new demo ready. If you liked the taste of what TFRSG had to offer, I guarantee you will be blown away by what we have cooking for AOS.

The biggest economy in Latin America, and the second largest economy in the Americas only below the behemoth that is the US, Brazil has always been viewed as a nation full of potential. Unfortunately, that's all that there has ever been - potential. Coming out of WW2 with a craving for republicanism and development, Brazil had its ambitions cut short in 1964 when the military took over its institutions and enacted two decades of oppression.

As the military regime thawed, Brazil would once again dare to dream in the new millennium powered by a commodities boom wrought by the rise of new emerging powers. But this dream would again escape Brazil's grasp when the boom ended and with it Brazil's economic and political stability, culminating in the 2016 impeachment of president Dilma Roussef and a reactionary shift with Jair Bolsonaro.

With the entire world at the brink, the nation faces tough challenges ahead, but also plenty of opportunities. Could this finally be the time for Brazil to rise up and become the power of the future it has always craved to be?

TFRSG seeks to add playable content to the Federative Republic of Brazil in The Fire Rises. As Brazil enters a new decade, the Covid-19 pandemic, looming Oil Crisis and political polarization present great challenges that the country must overcome. But the new decade also presents Brazil with many opportunities to carve its own space in the globe and finally rise to the status of a true global power. Will you lead Brazil to a path of greatness, or to its own ruin?

Navigate Brazilian politics through a bespoke congress system tailored to the Brazilian reality. Negotiate with the "big center" to pass deep reforms while combatting their influence, raise the popularity of your preferred ideology to grow its representation in the chamber, or opt for the easy way and seek compromise solutions.

As the leader of Brazil, the world's largest rainforest is under your responsibility. Curb its devastation with military interventions and investments in preservation while working to reform the conditions that lead to its destruction in the long term and hopefully reverse the trend... Or plot a completely different route and cave in to the agricultural and mining interests for your own gain at the expense of the Amazon!

As the coronavirus spreads through Brazil, decide between addressing it sensibly or exploiting it for political gain, but be warned: blatant irresponsibility may have severe consequences!

The upcoming 2022 elections are set to be the most controversial ones in Brazil's history. Between the incumbent Jair Bolsonaro, the returning Lula da Silva and the Dark Horse candidate Geraldo Alckmin, the future of the nation stands at a crossroads. And in the fringes, the military lies in waiting, ready to strike at the Brazilian establishment and retake control of the country.

As the fires rise in North America, the embers arrive in the Southern half of the continent. As the leader of Brazil, it is your responsibility to curb radicalism and prevent the nation from splintering as the US did. Of course, as a player, you may have different intentions, and some would argue that a civil war is what the nation truly needs to find its path in the world stage...
