Spawn? No for assets in this map but the script is compatible with spawning.
Are pantographs connected to overhead cables? No, script using constrain functions to hold them in place.
Can I manually connect/disconnect a pantograph from overhead cables? Yes, you can do that anywhere anytime as long as you're driving the vehicle.
How do you get path of ropes? I didn't, I use shapes to estimate path of ropes. That's also why these overhead cables are all under tension.
Tutorials or guides? Yes, this mod have PDF guide which explains everything you need to know to make a pantograph. Make a local copy of mod and view it!
Why pantographs came earlier than train tracks? Train tracks are more difficult and complex to simulate since we need to constraint an entire train. But good news to you guys that I might attempt to make one later =)

Known Issues
Due to some unknown reason, having a floating rope with tag "pantoConnect" connected to pantograph's collector would crash game on load.
Vehicles with pantograph risen would always be active (game simulates physics) therefore having too many vehicles with pantograph risen may cause performance issue.
At current stage, vehicles with only one pantograph risen have a chance to disconnect when reaching a splitting point.
