Based on the previous Schmidt–Rubin rifles of the Swiss army, the K31 was the straight pull service rifle of the Swiss army during the interwars and WW2.Although it wasn't used during the war due to Switzerland's neutrality, the Swiss forces did mobilize and man the border to defend from a potential invasion from any side. Warring planes did infringe on Swiss airspace several times during the war, being met with ground fire and interceptors, with at least some Bf109s confirmed to have been downed over Switzerland
