This mod allows you to play full games of Rimworld cooperatively with your friends.

Rimworld Multiplayer is an open-source, community driven mod to implement multiplayer into RimWorld.

  • Play with as many players as you want to! (We recommend a max of 8 though)
  • Integrated with the Steam API, so no portforwarding is needed.
  • Can auto sync config files, download enabled workshop mods between the host and players. (Only via steam)
  • Compatable with Royalty, Ideology and 98% of all vanilla features except for colony naming, certain quests, and a few dev tools.
  • Supports multi-colony setups. You can enable async time which makes each colony run their time separately.
  • You can connect through either LAN, Steam, or direct connect (Latter requires you to portforward or use a vpn)
  • Mod support. (Not all mods will work in multiplayer. Please read the "Using mods in multiplayer" if you plan on using them)
  • Mod support status is shown directly in the ingame mod menu.
  • API so you can easily add support for the multiplayer mod.

Mod Download Order.

Multiplayer comes after Core, but before various technical mods like Hugslib.

How can I use a direct connection?

Type 0.0.0.0 in the "direct" field if you don't understand how it works, and people use your public ip or the ip assigned to you by the program you use to connect.
You can find your public ip address by doing a google search, etc.
If this does not work, the connection may be blocked by the firewall.

What ports should be forwarded in case I want to use a direct connection?

30502 over UDP.

How do I convert my multi-user save to a single-user save?

Click on the save that you want to convert and click the "Watch" button. When the download is finished there will be a "Convert to Single-player" button in the ESC menu.

Using mods in multiplayer:

When using mods in multiplayer, there are a few things you will need to do.

First of all, make sure that any mods you try to use in multiplayer are marked as compatible with the multiplayer mod, or it is very likely that you will encounter a lot of desynchronization, which in some cases can cause the game to break.

You should also arrange your mods in the same way and have the same downloaded mods all the time when trying to play multiplayer with them.

Once this is done, the host will need to share their config files to make sure that all of your configs are exactly the same, or you will probably have some desync problems associated with that.

Configuration folder location on Windows, Mac and Linux:
