Originally created to be used during the siege of Leningrad, as a very cheap weapon that would require almost no machining to manufacture, the PPS43,which was an improvement over the original PPS42,became one of the main smgs of the Red army, with two million produced by 1945. Originally it was intended to replace the PPSh 41,but the production of that gun was already going on great numbers, and thus it was decided to produce them in paralell to avoid reducing efficency. It's production stopped after the war, as the army deemed they had enough smgs already
