Sa-18 surface to air missile, also known as 8 "grouse" (Russian code 9k38 "needle"), is a portable surface to air missile system developed by Russia. It entered the army in 1983 and is used to replace SA-7 and attack low-altitude mobile and non mobile targets and hovering helicopters.
Sa-18 is a new generation of portable surface to air missile developed on the basis of sa-14 and sa-16. It absorbs the advantages of both in performance and technology, and at the same time injects new technology, so its performance is more superior. It is the most advanced portable surface to air missile system in Russia.
