Designed during the interwars period for the Italian army's semi automatic rifle contest, the Armaguerra was considered superior to it's competition, and was thus selected. Due to an ammunition change, it had to be redesigned, with production starting in 1943, after only a few hundred rifles were made, the capitulation made production stop. It is likely some of those rifles saw use, as the short lasted Italian Social Republic used virtually every available gun to supply it's army, and the later German occupation force also employed many reserve weapons
