The Special Airborne Service (SAS) is a special unit of the British Armed Forces, which is a model for special forces units in many other countries around the world. Engaged in reconnaissance of enemy forces, participates in counter-terrorism operations and direct armed clashes, as well as in the release of hostages. Along with the Special Boat Service, the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, the Special Forces Support Group, the Joint Special Forces Air Wing and the 18th Special Forces Communications Regiment. SAS forms the special forces of Great Britain under the command of the head of the Special Forces Department.
