Irkut MC-21 for People Playground

The MC-21 is Russia's newest commercial plane. It was developed by the United Aircraft Corporation (Объединённая авиастроительная корпорация) and first flew in 2017. It is expected to enter service with Rossiya Airlines in late 2022 along with other airlines. The MC-21 competes with the Airbus A320 neo and Boeing 737 max, which are currently the 2 most popular single isle aircraft. While the A320 and 737 are older models from the 80s and the 60s respectively which have been modified, the MC-21 is a completely new aircraft built from the ground up, allowing it to have the widest cabin in its class.

The MC-21 is powered by the PD-14 or Pratt and Whitney PW1000G turbofans -the latter being the ones used on the A320 neo. The PD-14 is the first Russian engine with fuel efficiency in mind. The PD-14 has a bypass ratio of 8:1, -while still impressive, it isnt as great as the 737 max's 11:1 bypass ratio or the A320 neo's 11.5:1. However, a ratio of 8:1 is still great. A higher bypass ratio increases fuel efficiency, and is the reason why jet engines are becoming bigger and more powerful, however, still maintaining fuel efficiency.
