Age of Imperialism

Age of Imperialism is a mod for Hearts of Iron IV, whose action is happening in a world where the First World War did not take place. Instead, there was a series of local wars, which influenced the global geopolitical scene by establishing the position of Great Britain, Germany and Russia as the dominant imperialist of the world, forced the United States to resign from isolationism, led to the weakness and chaos in France and Austria, and contributed to strengthening the influence of the Kingdom of Italy or the creation of the Balkan Federation. The game starts in 1931, when the competition between empires concerning their mutual sphere of influence seems to temporarily die out, but it will soon be reignited again as a result of proxy wars leading to changes within the influence zones combined with an upcoming economic crisis. Leaving and joining alliances, creating them or the emergence of new countries leads to changes to the geopolitical chessboard, which will ultimately lead humanity to the edge of world war, in which one of the blocks shall dominate the world, or otherwise the world shall be embroiled in endless atrocities of total war.

  • The decrease of tension caused by the end of the 2nd Chinese Civil War is not correctly named

  • Decisions to unite factions can now be taken only a single time for each nation

  • Also decisions to dismantle said nations are now causing all of their cores to be deleted, so once it's done, it's done. There ain't gonna be Transcaucasia anymore, or whatever nation you just deleted from existence

    (I really can't wait for Paradox once more coming in to change some most basic thing in the game by making a complete overhaul of it that shall take away over a month of our lifes in order to make adjustments to it)
  • Big-Big Company and ATBG (anti tank big guns) Company were renamed accordingly to En Masse Company and ARW (armor piercing weapons) Company
  • Manufacturers bonuses for those without Arms Against Tyranny have also been changed slightly in the name of either making them more uniqe compared to one another, or in order to balance them out better
  • Infantry equipment costs more in order to balance out the number of military factories and manpower available in the mod
  • The number of resources in the world has been generally reduced for better balance, there are however few exceptions with several regions actually gaining more resources
  • US companies that were supposed to be naval companies are now correctly assigned

  • If in early wars the player has picking neither of the side and war shall drag in a stalemate for a bit, one of the sides shall be boosted in order to cease the conflict before Great War begins
  • Proclaiming your imperialist ambitions becomes automatically available if you are already participating in war (as it is likely a Great War already, so there is no point to wait!)
  • Portugal is now going to join Spanish civil war without the need to worry about having an actual army!

  • The experimental AI option has been added and is set to default in custom game rules.
  • AI should focus more on the production of tanks and planes.
  • AI should focus more on the economy, prioritizing civilian factories until mid-1933, then military factories.
  • AI should choose economic and expansion focuses more eagerly.
  • The German AI going down the blitzkrieg line should focus on tanks, choose the blitzkrieg doctrine, and become more aggressive. German AI is set to not defend allies (except Poland) in order to better counter European threats.
  • Notifications about war being justified by you or your allies via focuses are now present.
  • The connection between the island in Russian Siberia and the island considered part of American Alaska has been deleted, resolving the issue of trade moving by train between the Americas and Eurasia/Africa.
  • A massive nerf to stability and war support of the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan, USA, Canada, South Africa, and France. Achieving 100% of each should be harder than before.
  • Events concerning Polish actions have been added to keep the Russian player updated on what happens in the Western Flank of their alliance.
  • China now has a new set of decisions that stress the case of their lost frontier and allow them to recover control over Himalayas, Xinjiang, and Mongolia.
  • South Africa can now ask for Angola and Mozambique, regardless of the current owner and controller of these places.
  • World tension is now lowered or increased by some focuses in all nations, reworking the values if this has already been the case.
  • The issue of French ministers and military staff erasing each other from existence has been solved.
  • Fix for doctrines cost reduction from focuses.
  • Faction leaders finishing their focus that enables joining the research group will now notify their allies through an event, providing a research bonus.
  • Transcaucasia is now available with basic content and will be further developed in the Wall of Soyuzniki update.
  • Oil drums and other modules introduced in the By Blood Alone update have been added.
  • Smolensk state has been made smaller to better fit Belarusian claims in Russia.
  • The general staff of many nations, especially Germany and USA, has been rebalanced to remove traces of Wehraboos and Pattonooism from the mod.
  • The borders of Arab States have been made smoother.
  • The Hindu-Muslim border in India has also been smoothed, becoming relevant once the Afghan Plot takes place.
  • German Asian lands have been significantly boosted to fit the title of the Pearl of Kaiserreich.
  • Ottomans have regained their independence, but the duration of Ottoman rule remains uncertain.
  • Chinese Republic industry has been nerfed to give the Empire (Qing) a better fighting chance.
  • The Qing Empire has become more competent and now starts as an independent nation rather than a Japanese puppet state. In return, Japan received rights to some of Qing resources.
  • The Portuguese focus on potential land claims from the British has been reduced, focusing only on the Rock (Gibraltar). If players desire more, joining the British faction is recommended.
  • Certain nations in the mod are now more likely to naval invade their enemies.
  • Two new flavor events have been added, courtesy of @Wagner's content submission.
  • The nation of Bukhara no longer exists and all traces of its existence have been removed from the mod.
  • AI is now less suicidal and much less willing to declare war on major nations when they are already at war.

    (In case you may be wondering why, we removed them because there was no more need for them with more and more nations receiving their own content and thus their own faction's national spirits)
  • The decisions about joining faction's research group were however left intact as they continue to serve their purpose, however since factions decision categories have been scrapped for now, these decisions are now part of Economics

  • General localisation fix. Our brave coder Maks went through all of the localisation files in our mod (at least most of them) and reorganised them into a single folder so the thing would stop being all over the place. Not mentioning removing files we were overwriting without good reason to do so.
  • General defines the fix. Our aforementioned brave coder Maks decided that the process of fixing the mess of our code shall not stop on mere localisation and overhauled what we are exactly overwriting as a mod. This should make some of the blocked vanilla content work again and fix several strange bugs, as well as (together with previous fix) make the process of updating the mod after new Paradox updates much easier.
